PROF. RODRIGUEZ SILVESTRE
"The singer Nacozari
(1874-1965)
XLIV death anniversary
Few people which are not originating from the place where they reside have earned the respect and affection of the people. In Sonora expressions have been minimal appreciation and affection that the people have given to outsiders, however, Silvestre Rodriguez, musician and mystic Michoacan, managed to conquer the hearts of the people of Sonora. (1874-1965)
XLIV death anniversary
This great composer was born in the state of Michoacan in the small town of Sahuayo the December 23, 1874. His parents were Gabriel Rodriguez and Julian Olivares. From an early age, Silvestre Rodriguez showed signs of an innate talent that made his father to spend more time than necessary academic and artistic growth of his son, and that the little musician met dreams and ideals that Mr. Gabriel was not able to reach.
At the age of ten years, the little Mexican genius began the composition of beautiful melodies that at that time (ca. 1884) could not be registered with the competent authorities, is that in those years, the Rodriguez family had Olivares enough money to record works by the young and protect them from plagiarism. It told the teacher
Manuel S. Acuña (a student of Don Silvestre Rodriguez) that he had made known his musical inspiration in his first composition which he called "Pueblito."
orchestras, bands, theaters and magazines were the first steps in the then-novel author took as a basis for a career that, years later, would give him fame and fortune he wanted not only for himself but for his parents and his wife, Delfina Leon, who fathered no children.
From the eleven-year-old left with his family to the State of Colima, where he studied music and was highlighted as an excellent performer of piano, violin, flute and oboe. Right there, in 1893, and twenty years old, he founded and was a member of the Orchestre de Colima. Years later traveled to Baja California Sur, where he led the Official Banda de La Paz.
The musician-composer arrived in the State of Sonora for 22 years and moved to Minas Prieta and La Colorada: mining centers were in full splendor in the late nineteenth follow. There he spent two years there has also continued with their training as a musician in all of his father and other musicians. Over time, he joined the Circo Atayde Hermanos orchestra with which he made a series of tours and presentations throughout Sonora. Thus municipalities met Cajeme, Navojoa, Hermosillo, Altar, etc. While
stay Rodriguez as master musician at the Circo Atayde Hermanos was never more than three months, being in a company that allowed him to travel and see the geography of Sonora, was an experience he treasured all his life musician, and thanks to those trips, he had the opportunity to expand their knowledge as long as your artistic-as it-was growing by leaps and bounds. Although
from twenty years old Don Silvestre Rodriguez lived in constant change of address, your creativity never waned. Indeed, by leaving a state to live in another, his experiences gave him the extra force needed to compose such beautiful pieces that, years after his death, still remember. It told the teacher
Manuel S. Acuna, a of the most famous waltzes Don Silvestre Rodriguez: "YOUR EYES," was composed in Naco, Sonora in 1895. At that time, came to play with an orchestra at a wedding. Here, inspiration came while watching a nice young man repeatedly as he played.
In 1903 he first came to Silvestre Rodriguez Nacozari ore, the town where he lived his last years, and where, thanks to the love they showed to their people, managed to gain the admiration and respect of the population. It was in this mining town where he decided to sink its roots. Since his arrival at the mountain town, Rodriguez Olivares knew how to survive in a town where economic activity was mining, and early twentieth century was thriving mining and railway. It is from this moment where the largest of their time as a composer was present. In this way, and accompanied by an orchestra that he formed, managed to liven up parties and social events that the families of high society had each week. It was in one of these parties where he meets and befriends Jesus Garcia Corona: The Hero of Nacozari.
was in the mining town of Nacozari where the teacher García Rodríguez wrote most of his musical works. For the waltz "Bethlehem" the muse of inspiration was Bethlehem Quiroga later Gudiño Vasquez. The waltz "Celina," "compound in late-30s, was dedicated to Miss Celina Montano, who still lives (in the city of Hermosillo). "Eva's Dream" was dedicated to Miss Eva Torres Ibarra, "Mary Clarissa," a song-waltz, was dedicated to Miss Mary Clarissa Vazquez Quiroga. The famous polka "La Pilareña," they say, was composed and dedicated to a young Pillars during the Mexican Revolution. The list goes on. Many were the muses for more than five decades, Rodríguez teacher use as inspiration. One of the waltz who rose to fame was "The chirping of birds," which was stolen and turned into "Let my disgrace" that you probably well know.
is where you can take a break from his numerous compositions are known to report that many of them, but it would be almost impossible to go into details. What I can tell is the incident which happened after the heroic deeds of Jesus Garcia. Don Silvestre Rodriguez, along with many of the inhabitants of Nacozari, went immediately to the scene to see what happened. Deeply moved, and wrapped in a large sorry for the death of one of his best friends, is locked in his house and used his talent to compose a march the next day was performed by the orchestra during the funeral of his friend, and year after year are still playing in the mourning ceremonies of 7 November. It is curious to know that despite having made the "March for Jesus Garcia in 1907, it was not until 46 years later, in 1953, when Rodriguez decided to edit the master and put it under the law.
For many years Prof. Rodríguez was devoted to teach music. His disciples were the famous composers: Leonardo Yáñez "El Nano" (author of "The Cumpas Moro ") and Manuel S. Acuña (author of "Nocturno Rosario," "My eyes Millets reported," "Alma Angelina," etc.)..
Over the years, Don Silvestre Rodriguez composed of hardware (polkas, vouchers, fox trots, etc..), And on several occasions his friends and disciples presented him to the U.S. round trip for some further edited of their works. At the age of 76 years (in the early '50s), the Sonora state government pensioned him with the meager amount of $ 250.00 per month "for his achievements as a composer of music and other services provided in government schools" (Encinas Blanco). When he reached a very advanced age, his brother Ephraim Othon Leon took him to Mexicali, Baja California. Some time later, due to his critical health condition caused by old age (90 years), decided to bring him to the floor of Sonora. Your family doctor, Manuel Contreras, the teacher asked if he wanted to be moved to Michoacan, or Nacozari, Sonora, to which Professor Rodríguez-deeply sorry for that question, "ordered to take him to die and be Nacozari to bury between people.
By the train Nacozari, Dr. Manuel Contreras tells you:
-Master, we Nacozari.
Deeply moved, and little strength he had left, said
-Nacozari, Nacozari Viva!
Only people who were nearby could hear.
was about 17:00 pm when he made his arrival the train to Agua Prieta Nacozari. In the train station had municipal authorities, student groups, musicians and a large crowd waiting for him with joy and love. Then the teacher asked that he be taken to the rectory to be assisted by the then parish priest, Fr. José Juan Cantú. His colleagues and students sang and played the music with so much love he had written and dedicated. Days later, the great composer breathed his last breath Michoacan while listening to the waltz "Let Mourn" he sang "Chabelita" Figueroa, Virginia and Alice Montano, Prof. Eloisita Durazo, Bernardo Othon, among others. Befell his unfortunate death on Wednesday night March 31, 1965. The then Mayor of Nacozari, Antonio García Cazares led the funeral procession of teacher Rodriguez, whose remains lie in the municipal cemetery in a grave that stands out. The harp-shaped tombstone is engraved with the first notes of the waltz "Miracle." Unfortunately, the death Silvestre Rodriguez, were killed with him a lot musical works, being unpublished most of them.
