During his presidential campaign, Calderón said repeatedly that cut taxes, which any connoisseur of the political system that governs us, qualify as impossible, since only the Legislature has the power to raise or lower taxes. But that's not the point. Calderon submitted to Congress the Union an economic package of tax saturated based on the premise of the country out of the critical economic situation.
The morning of October 21, the full House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved the Revenue Act, which provides for a total of 3.1 billion pesos for the fiscal year 2010. Personally, I agree with raising taxes on products harmful to health, such as beer and snuff. For this 1.5% increase in beer tax, and increased by 40 cents a pack of cigarettes. I make a parenthesis to congratulate and thank the few members of the PRI who voted against this budget. Good to know that in Mexico Members who vote are still not entered freely.
Among the increases included in the new Revenue Act is the income tax, which rises from 28 to 30%. The telecommunications tax (except mobile phones) increased by 3%, as the tax deposit over 15 thousand dollars (down from 2% from the 25 mil) and the VAT is at 16%, was 15% (does not apply to food or medicine.)
acknowledge that much of the 3.1 billion pesos to get the federal government next year will be to assist the economic recovery, but much of the budget will, no doubt, to further fuel the current system bureaucracy and senior government officials. In this vein, it is important to note that almost the entire American continent, Mexico is the country with the federal representatives (deputies and senators): 628 in total. In the U.S., for example, with a much larger population than Mexico, the Congress has 535, 93 fewer than in Mexico.
According to Web site of the Chamber of Deputies, the monthly subsistence allowance of Members in 2008 was $ 77,745.00, $ 45,786.00 for legislative assistance and $ 28,772.00 for expenses of public attention. Not counting, of course, a group life insurance, major medical insurance, funeral expenses (up to a month of diet, per event), support for air transport with 4 tickets per month and 3 session in recess and food stamps by $ 2.780 pesos a month. The bonus given to Members in 2009 was $ 101,604.64. (The information is not updated 2009). This is only the House of Representatives, the Senate has its own expenses.
it too! Federal deputies said they will cut unnecessary costs for next year. I hope it's true. If the government wants to save perfect, but it's a good idea to reduce bureaucratic hierarchies and completely eliminating multimember deputies and senators. This would reduce the total of 628 representatives to 364, which represents a reduction of 264 individuals currently feed the public purse without having received the popular vote. Calderon, meanwhile, has already taken the first step to eliminate three Secretaries of State (Civil Service Reform and Tourism).
This, in my opinion, would be a big step to ensuring sustainable public finances. Taxes are inevitable and even necessary for the functioning of the federal government, as long as they do a good distribution of resources.
The ordinary citizen, to save time, start to cut wasteful spending before asking for a raise. The same logic should follow the federal government. Hopefully
